2011 IDA Congress Education Conference

24-26 October 2011, Taiwan (Chinese Taipei)

Call for Papers

The International Design Alliance (IDA) is a strategic venture between the international organizations representing industrial design, communication design, and interior/architecture design. The alliance was created by its founding partners, the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid), the International Council of Graphic Design Associations (Icograda) and the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI). The 2011 IDA Congress marks the alliance’s inaugural event since its establishment in 2005. Taipei was selected as the host city to help bring together various design disciplines to explore the congress theme ‘Design at the Edges.’ ‘Design at the Edge’ refers to the boundaries between design and non-design industries, the boundaries between the various design disciplines and the perceived limits of design that are constantly challenged by visionaries within the industry. The congress looks at these boundaries and stimulates interaction between them, culminating in an overlap between industries and disciplines where design can be of greater influence.

The 2011 IDA Congress Education Conference will be held 24-26 October 2011 at the Taipei International Convention Centre (TICC). The congress will focus on five major fields, including biotechnology, urbanism, the Internet, economic development and international migration, that demonstrate a strong impact on modern design development, and which provide us a new lifestyle and experience. For example, smart green building research and design are the combination of two areas of knowledge, namely biotechnology and urbanism, which are put into practice in interior/architecture design. The Internet and social networks have become two of the most rapidly developing media in which communication design is applied, while economic development and international migration issues have always been production cost considerations for enterprises that may indirectly influence industrial design policies and target consumers. To illustrate the interesting nature of design, experts in the five major fields will be invited to participate in oral presentations in thematic sessions and serve as speakers. In addition, world famous design masters will also be invited to join in the discussions probing into every aspect of innovative design concepts and the latest trends in design.
