由美國工業設計協會（Industrial Designers Society of America）主辦的2003年工業設計獎開始徵件，此一國際上具代表性之一的工業設計獎每年皆受到國際設計界之矚目。
競賽主題：參賽者必須針對大會所分類的11類49項範疇作為設計主題

* Computer Equipment
* Consumer Products
* Design Explorations
* Digital Media and Interfaces
* Environments
* Furniture
* Medical and Scientific Products
* Packaging and Graphics
* Student Designs
* Transportation
評審標準：共有16位專業評審, 評審項目分別為下列五大項
* Innovation
*Benefit to user, including performance, comfort, safety, ease of use and universal functional and access.
*Benefit to client, including increased sales and market penetration and reduced time to market or to manufacture.
*Ecologically responsible, use of material and process throughout life cycle, including source and waste reduction, energy efficiency and repair/reuse/recyclability.
*Appropriate aesthetics.
